Allan Kioko

Allan “Think” Kioko is a visual artist, illustrator, and muralist based at Karen Village in Nairobi, Kenya.

He developed his skills under the guidance of artist Patrick Mukabi at the Dust Depo Art Studio and with the BSQ graffiti crew at the BSQ train studio.

Kioko is known for his expressive painting style, characterized by bold strokes, color, and texture. He works primarily with acrylic on canvas and watercolor on paper, creating thought-provoking, humorous, and sometimes controversial pieces inspired by his life experiences and travels.

Aspiring to be an art teacher and mentor, Kioko recently taught art at the Aga Khan Primary School’s Deaf Unit, following in his mentor’s footsteps.

His artworks have been exhibited at venues such as The Oneoff Contemporary Gallery, The National Museum of Kenya, Augsburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany, Sanaa Festival Exhibition in Australia, Karen Golf Club, Safaricom Michael Joseph Centre, and the United Nations in Nairobi. He also produced an artwork for the Donovan Woods ‘Without People’ project in 2020.

Kioko is renowned for his mural paintings in Nairobi’s low-income areas like Mathare, Korogocho, and Baba Dogo with his new graffiti crew ‘Clan of A Can’. He received a commendation award from the MASK Prize competition in 2018 and placed second in the Manjano Art Competition in 2019.
