Tanaka Mazivanhanga

Tanaka Mazivanhanga was born in 1991 in Zimbabwe.
Preserving memories of spaces and surfaces that may one day be lost is at the core of her artistic practice. Her work meticulously documents the surfaces, textures, marks, and fragments of often overlooked and forgotten relics within the urban landscape. Through her art, she seeks to highlight the details of the mundane and the everyday, bringing to the observer elements and aspects they may have previously overlooked due to a habitual familiarity with their surroundings. Her intent is to spark curiosity in the viewer, encouraging them to pause and reflect, stepping away from the pace of daily life to consider things they might otherwise ignore, or to perceive the familiar in a new and unexpected way. Rather than simply describing spaces, she challenges the perception of them by presenting them through an unfamiliar lens, exploring these environments through her three main areas of focus: printmaking, casting, and object-making.
